One of the most important audiovisual events in Latin America, the Festival do Rio (6 – 18 Sep 2011) attracts professionals and film buffs from all over the world. Catch screenings, showcases and seminars at venues across Rio.

The festival attracts around 180,000 people for its screenings of Brazilian and world films at cinemas throughout the city, which include numerous features, shorts and documentaries. There are also seminars, cinematic exhibitions and cubicles equipped with video and DVD.

Cinesul

The Cinesul is the Ibero-American Festival of Cinema and Video that screens fictional and documentary films at several venues throughout the entire city. In addition, there is going to be a special exhibition at the Botanic Garden which will focus on moviemaking and a chance to network at seminars and workshops.

Held at Cine Odeon BR – Praça Floriano, 7 – Cinelandia; Oi Futuro – Rua Dois de Dezembro, 63 – Catete, between September 23th and October 7th, it is the most important event in the Latin film industry. The competitive exhibition includes short and regular Brazilian movies, besides fiction and documentary films, and also foreign films.

Organized between September 23th and October the 7th, the 12th edition of the Rio de Janeiro Film Festival is considered to be the largest and most important event in the movie industry in all Latin America. The show will include short and regular Brazilian films, documentary and fictional films as well as foreign films. It will be held at Cima Centro de Cultura e Informação e Meio Ambiente.

Vale Open Air

The Vale Open Air is a festival that gathers music, movies and other attractions like showcases of Moo and Dancing Cheetah parties, Whitest Boy Alive and Lucas Santtana, in one place. River Festival

The River Festival, which this year will reach the 11th edition, is the largest film festival in all Latin America. Here short, documentaries and national feature films will be exhibited to the delight of the public. This a very competitive show, which brings together short films, national feature, films as well as documentaries. The winner of this event will go home with the Redentor trophy.

The locations in which this important cinema event will take place is Cine Odeon BR – Praça Municipal Theater and will have more than 30 exhibition spaces, including tarpaulins and cultural spaces; Hi Future – Rua São Clemente, 63 – level 7.The awards that are going to be given at this 11th edition of the River Film Festival are:

International Short Film Festival Rio de Janeiro

The International Short Film Festival 2009 is a very competitive festival for movies made in 35mm, 16mm and digital media. The event has reached the 19th edition in 2009 and it promises to be a very good show for film fanatics. Over the past ten years, the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival has stamped itself as being the largest film festival in Brazil and in the entire Latin American continent. Each year, approximately 400 films are screened in over 30 theaters around Rio, attracting more than 250,000 spectators.

The festival serves as the world’s major showcase for contemporary Brazilian cinema, with its prestigious competitive Premiere Brasil section featuring drama, documentaries and short films, all vying for the Troféu Redentor award.

An international section presenting about 300 films offers the best in current film-making from around the world, all movies being divided into 12 non-competitive thematic programs. Programs include the Panorama of World Cinema, the Premiere Latina section, and the Focus section, which selects a country each year that will pay tribute to its national cinema; but also to strengthen the commercial ties with Brazil.
