The June Festival is considered an integral part of the vast Brazilian culture. On the first day of May, the city of Rio de Janeiro along with other cities in the world celebrate Labor Day. This is recognized internationally as the day when all workers celebrate their achievements throughout their long and difficult history. In Rio, the event is going to be marked with various demonstrations and shows.

On April 19th, the city of Rio de Janeiro will celebrate the rich cultural heritage that stems from the indigenous people of the country. Dia do Indio (Day of the Indian) will be the home of many exhibitions, indigenous dance performances as well as many screenings that will occur at the Museu do Indio.

If you are not a big fan of the Rio Carnival, head down to the Parati Carnival, organized down on the coast to the old colonial town of Parati. The party here is more traditional, significantly less crowded and is set in a lovely utopian environment.
